How we work
Every piece of work starts with one real decision: the one you bring us. Not the whole organisation. Not a programme. One decision that matters to you, and whatever is shaping it.
Step 1
A first conversation
Unhurried, without a pitch, and without obligation.
You tell us about a decision that keeps stalling, coming back, or quietly not moving. We ask questions, tell you honestly whether we can help, and say so if we cannot.
Step 2
A diagnostic
A short, focused look at how decisions actually move in your organisation.
We start with a goal you already own. Together we choose a few recent decisions that bear on it, and trace each one from start to finish: where it waited, who was asked, who decided, and who lives with the result. We speak with people at different levels, and look at the paper trail each decision passed through.
We look for four things:
- What is holding it together. Who or what is quietly absorbing the gaps, and what happens if they leave.
- Where ownership breaks. Whether each decision has an owner who can be found, who is connected to the people who know, and who carries the consequences.
- The conditions people are working under. Not knowing who decides; knowing and having no way to influence them; deciding without carrying the outcome; a few people carrying far more than the structure accounts for.
- Which way the gap runs. Whether your decisions are waiting on your technology, or your technology is waiting on your decisions.
What you receive: a short written readout and a working session to go through it together. It shows what we found, the evidence behind it, what it is costing you where you have the figures, and where to start. It also names at least one thing we looked for and did not find.
Sometimes the answer is that decisions are not your constraint. If so, we will say so, and we will not propose further work.
The diagnostic stands on its own. There is no obligation to continue.
Step 3
The work that follows
If there is a case for change, we design it around what we found. No standard programme.
- We share what we found with the people who carry the decisions.
- We work on the specific breaks we found: finding or creating an owner, making the route to a decision visible, making clear what people may decide on their own and what to bring for discussion.
- We test the change in the real work, on real decisions.
- Before we change anything, we agree what a meaningful improvement would look like. Afterwards, we trace the same kinds of decisions again and tell you plainly whether the problem changed.
Then we leave. If it is useful, we come back six or twelve months later to see whether the change has held.
What we do not do
- No hundred-page report that sits on a shelf.
- No scores or ratings of individuals. We look at how decisions move, never at how people perform.
- No workshop for the sake of having a workshop.
Confidentiality
What you tell us stays with us. The readout describes how decisions move, not who is to blame. We do not name people or organisations in anything we write.
We take on one full engagement at a time, so each gets the attention it needs.
